Welcome to Honduras where it is 90+ degrees every day and it is amazing!!! This month we are working at a bilingual elementary school called Santa Clara!! Everyday we move around to classrooms from preschool to 6th Grade!! This week I have been working with preschoolers and it has been an exciting, interesting, and crazy experience!!!
So to put it in prospective there are 18 4 year olds in a classroom when it is 90 degrees with just two teacher… And also we are teaching in more that 80% English!! Let alone it is a lot of speaking slow and repeating your self!! And the class revolves on little heart stickers that are put on a chart for good behavior but we will get back to that….
Also this week the kids are being tested so this week the SILLY 4 year olds are also required to actually sit down and answer questions/ color a picture to see what they are leaning!!
One of my new friends this week is a little boy named Rodrigo. Rodrigo is a spunky little 4 year old that also has a really hard time sitting down for longer than 3 minutes!! So on Tuesday I worked with Rodrigo on just working on the tests that we needed to finish. It ended up that I sat right next to him and every time he trued to get up I touched him on the shoulder and reminded him that we were sitting down!!! Now little did I know that this was a huge deal that he actually stayed sitting.
So when it came to the little heart stickers being passed out Rodrigo got a sticker!! Now let me tell you that the smile on his face was so large when he was told that he got a sticker!!! It brought me so much joy and excitement to see his joy!! Now let me tell you why this small act of a little sticker is such a big deal…. THIS STICKER WAS THE FIRST STICKER THAT RODRIGO HAS GOTTEN ALL YEAR!!!! That is why it is a big deal!!
Now this really showed me that taking the time to really love someone no matter what, even if they are trying to get up, crumpling there paper, or dropping there crayon purposely on the floor, that there can be really GREAT REWARDS!!!!!
Now I challenge you to take the time and really dig in and love someone even when it is hard because the rewards might not seam big but they can be huge !!!!!
Also I still am in need of some help with funding record my total fundraising goal!!! I am almost there and so if you can help I would be more than thrilled!!!!
