I’ve already mentioned how legit our ministry host is this month. But really, he could be the coolest guy I’ve ever met. Pat has such a simplistic outlook on the Gospel and how to better love and serve others that I feel like each conversation is a life altering one.
One morning, while picking up the kids for swimming lessons, (our awesome ministry last week) Heather and I sat in the truck with Pat and let him lead us through some deep truth about loving other’s and loving God. Halfway though chatting, I whipped out my phone and started voice recording the things he was saying. His thick accent and nonchalant attitude makes hard-hitting truths difficult to retain since they seem to come out of the blue.
I didn’t want to miss this talk.
The conversation started by Pat telling us to not be, “weird” Christians. You know.. the Christians that think they’ve got it all figured out, when in reality they don’t. He always tells us to be more like Jesus and less like a Pharisee and to teach other’s that importance too. He described these, weird Christians as whitewashed tombs. Perfect and clean on the outside, but rotten and dead on the inside. I asked him why he thought so many Christians become “weird”, and he said it’s their pride and their desire to gain more knowledge when in reality following Jesus is a lot more simple.
One of my takeaways this month is to not only keep my life more simplistic, but to also love other’s way more. In the words of Pat,
“Love God. Love people. It’s simple!”
I hope this video gives you a little more insight to how awesome Pat is!
