The only thing I knew about Ethiopia prior to writing this blog was that it was in the “Meningitis Belt” of Africa. Meaning I had to get a nice little surprise shot at the travel clinic.
Haha – I hate shots.
I also refused to get Malaria medication, because of the nightmares that come with it and how expensive it is. I’ll update you in real time month 7 to let you know if I’ve contracted Malaria or not. (Sorry, mom).
Now for the fun part.
Ethiopia is a very traditional country. It was never colonized by any European power, which is pretty amazing since the “Scramble for Africa” (a huge conquest of the continent) was at the forefront of European focus.
There is a lot I could say about Ethiopia.
It’s located in the Horn of Africa.
It’s the birthplace of coffee (Hallelujah!) and there are coffee ceremonies often.
The men and women both dress very conservatively,
and respect of your elders is extremely important.
But I found this really really nice video that shows Ethiopia in a raw and beautiful way. So, you lucked out and don’t have to read my historical rant this week. But take a few minutes to watch this video and pray for my team and I as we prepare to meet, encourage and love the people of Ethiopia.
