I’m in Dublin, Ireland for the Awakening along with 5 Squads including my own Squad: October Squad 2009 (L Squad) Janurary Squad 1 (M Squad), Janurary Squad 2 (N Squad), June Squad (O Squad), and July Squad (P Squad). We have 4 guest speakers: Andrew Shearmen, Seth Barnes, Michael Hindes, and Anthony Chapman. Jonathan David Helser and his wife Melissa, lead us in amazing, prophetic worship. Not only are theyworship leaders, but they are also songwriters and photographers whose dream is for a generation to see who God really is and to worship him with every sound, color and beat of their hearts. They live in Sophia, N.C. at “A Place for the Heart” where they lead summer camps and schools centered on worship and creativity.
Tonight, as we were worshipping, Michael Hindes came up during a transition into another song and said that 15-20% of the people in the room don’t worship in reckless abandon like God wants us to. “He said, I’m not talking about dancing or singing or speaking in togues. I’m talking about your hearts posture towards God and how you can’t worship in reckless abandon to God unless you know who you are, in Him. Many lies or perceptions have been spoken or thought about how God sees you. Many say, as a sinner saved by grace, but that is only Paul’s reference, speaking about his circumstance. God sees you as sons and daughters.”
He made a reference to how much he loves and talks about his 3 sons. He said, “I speak highly of my sons. I show off their pictures everytime I get the chance. My heart speeds up everytime I see them. I am overwhelmed when they say, ‘I love ya pop.’ I don’t talk to other people about them and say, ‘Here is my son the liar, or the fornicator, or the thief, or the drug addict.’ Instead I tell people how proud I am of them, and how great they are, and all the many wonderful things about them. And I’m only man! Think about how much more God loves you, His son’s and daughter’s!!”
Michael went back to worshipping and Melissa began to tell us a story about her son and how it goes right along with what he said. After the story she then asked us all to close our eyes and visualize that you are sitting on God’s lap and He just wants to sit with you during your time of pain, suffering, passion, joy, or confusion. Just sit there with Him and feel your emotions. Its just you and Him in this place.” I imagined me sitting on God’s lap. I wrapped my arms around Him. I then began to weep as I thought about all the things that broke my heart in the Dominican Republic and in Haiti. I thought about the child abuse that was so evident by the scars on the kids; I thought about the homeless kids that are starving and don’t know where their next meal is coming from; I thought about the orphans that had lost their family; I thought about kids in that same orphanage whose parents gave them up, either, because they couldn’t afford to take care of them, or they just didn’t want them; And I thought about the goodbyes. Leaving kids that I spent the past 4 weeks pouring into and getting to know. Living with them through their mess and day to day life, saying its ok to feel that way, but no matter what you do or don’t do, Jesus still loves you and always will.
I eventually got to a point where I stopped crying and felt relieved. I was able to release the emotion that I was holding onto. I was able to sit in my Father’s lap and just Be. I was able to wrap my arms around my Father and see Him holding me and smiling back at me saying, “It’s ok, I’ve got you son. I love you.” I stood up and immediately began to radically worship Jesus even more than I already do. I jumped, I danced, I sang, and I screamed “JESUS!!!!!!” at the top of my lungs. By the way. This is just Day 1.
