We were asked to write a blog about how we were called to this mission trip. Here is my story…
It all started when I came back from my Chrysalis Journey retreat. For those of you that don’t know what that is, Journey is a Christian retreat that takes you away from all distractions and your only focus is on God. Anyway, I came back and wanted to join a bible study group. Well I text Shannon Patterson (Pastor of Solomons Porch) and asked if could join her bible study group. She said yes but she was sick so it was cancelled for that week. So I text her back and told her that if she knows of anything that a 23 year old college student can get into to let me know. She replied and said that Solomons Porch had a mission trip coming up to help the Choctaw Indians in Mississippi. I asked how much and she replied that someone had backed out and had already paid the deposit so it would only be $100. I immediately said, “Sign me up!”
I loved it!! It was amazing!! I was able to serve others and see the difference that it makes first hand. I was able to work with the kids and watch them go from one extreme to the next. From fussing and fighting to laughing and hugging. We did Vacation Bible School, painted a widows house, fixed the kids playground, and served food. I grew more in that week, spiritually, than I think I ever have in my life.
That Ignited a fire in me! A one week mission trip was not enough! I was talking to Shannon Patterson about another mission trip that I could go on. She told me about Adventures in Missions online and World Race. I was so intrigued. I prayed about it for a couple weeks and decided to sign up. I filled out the application and a week later took an interview with, Brian. I was called a week later and was told that I was prayerfully accepted to World Race!!! And now I’m on the journey to raising enough money to go. God will provide!!
