Hey, welcome to a very exciting PLOT TWIST, which is…

1) I have a blog now!

2) My blog is about me going on a 9 month mission trip!

Yep, somehow I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to be going to Swaziland, Thailand and Nicaragua, where I’ll be doing mission work, for nine months, starting in September.

No big deal, right? Wrong! This is actually the biggest deal of my life, I’ve never ever been this excited!! But that wasn’t always the case, because I was pretty back and forth about it for a really long time. I first heard about World Race from one of my best friends in the spring, she was so amazingly passionate my interest was immediately sparked. But then the normal expectations for people my age got in the way. You know, that whole college deal, there’s some pressure involved.

What I wanted was constantly shifting, until I went to Haiti in June. I can not emphasize how much I did not want to leave. Seriously, I texted my mom that I was staying, she should take care of Sprinkles (my super sweet cat), I’ve got things to do here. I just loved everything about the experience, from doing medical inventory to playing with girls at their school, and even the lizard that lived in our shower (we named him Houdini). But, the trip was only a week long and my heart has so much more to give than that week.

Then applying to colleges came around and there was that back and forth moment again. I kept asking myself, why not? And really how could I not take this chance, I know that this is something I’m called to do! My heart said yes, Mom said yes, World Race said yes, the Lord said yes! And don’t worry I’ll be going to college the year after.

So with this journey I’m hoping to apply everything I’ve learned from church, RE classes, YoungLife, volunteering, Haiti, and the IB program, all around the World! I want to grow closer with God and allow him to work through me. I want to shatter every doubt that I’ve had about my abilities and do things I’d never imagined I’d be doing.

This is really something I am so humbled by and I have so many thoughts/experiences I’ll be sharing on this blog in the future, so keep an eye out. I’m very thankful for each and everyone one of you who has read this and I hope that you can continue to support me, whether that’s from prayer, good vibes, or a donation!

With lots and lots of love,

        (a very happy) Julia
