Hey friends,

I am currently writing to you after saying bye to my friends in the Fort Lauderdale airport. Since, as I’m sure you’re well aware, the corona virus is changing everything. I really don’t know the full extent of what’s happening since I’ve had limited access in talking to people and researching but seems like there is lots of change. This last week has been very up and down and back and forth with things changing every day.

The first change was that our parent visit was cancelled which was disappointing. Then we learned a couple groups would be coming back but no plans for us since we were in a very low threat area for corona. Then the next morning we learned we were coming home Friday and would have a solid week. The day after that we learned that we’d actually be coming home in a day and a half instead but we would get a few days together in Atlanta. Then yesterday Atlanta was cancelled. Now none of that was enjoyable, but since I know for sure that God has a reason for us to be home I have tried to not be too upset. There’s no way I’d already be half way home if He didn’t want me to be.

But anyway other than that, I’ve been in Nicaragua since the beginning of March living on a farm with my entire group. It was a really great experience and included playing with kids, some manual labor, learning spanish as fast as I possibly could, and prayer. And before Nicaragua I would say my time in Thailand was too enjoyable for me to pause and write a blog. I worked in a village for one month at a school teaching english to my favorite kids ever, and then a month in the city finding donations for a 5k put on by Free Burma Rangers (which you should look up).

Though nothing has gone as planned since leaving Swaziland I really am not that shocked about this- I’m unfazeable. But I am grateful for everyone I’ve met and every experience I’ve had. I would love to see everyone and say thank you for your support as soon as I can – or as soon as I’m allowed to (I’ve heard a lot about social distancing), but until then feel free to ask me any questions. It should be interesting after being gone almost 7 months and coming back to an America I’ve never experienced before.

Thanks, Julia
