sunscreen,  green grass, blue skies and an elevation of about 10,000 ft ? definitely not wisconsin anymore

i’ve officially been living in ecuador for a week ! and its so amazing! i don’t think its possible to get used to the view outside my bedroom window every morning and night.

the last few days have looked like ministry, rest, adjusting and fellowship. for the next month or so, we are living in Casa Blanca, a home for missionaries in Quito, Ecuador.

our ministry last week consisted of work around the property of Casa Blanca. specifically, some examples include chopping wood for fires, weeding, rebuilding part of a driveway, taking down bunk beds in another missionary house that we will be demolishing in the coming weeks. our hosts, Mabe and Fabi also live on the property and cook us authentic Ecuadorian meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. each meal, two of us get to help and learn how to cook the food.

one thing that has been super cool is the way that Mabe and Fabi live a waste free life. no paper towels in the bathroom or kitchen, doing laundry during certain times of the day to save money, air drying clothes, 3-5 minute showers, compost, eating all our food on our plates-when I say all, y’all should have seen the look on our faces when they told us not only to eat our entire apple cores but that whoever brought the dishes to the kitchen would be responsible to finish the leftover food that people didn’t eat. we figured that one out quick. lol. i’ve already learned so much about this lifestyle that I cannot wait to take back to life at home.

this coming week, we start going to our other ministry location called “camp hope”. we will be doing some sort of construction work there.

our general schedule looks like:

wednesday and fridays ministry at camp hope. here we will be doing more manual labor.

thursdays, saturdays, and sundays ministry at casa blanca

mondays are our adventure days!!

yesterday we got a bus tour around the “old city”, went to a small market area and ate lunch at a park. it was our first chance to interact with locals and it left me wishing i would have taken spanish in addition to sign language, lol.

tuesdays are our sabbath days!!

today has looked like, sleeping in and helping make breakfast for everyone, quiet time in my bible, facetime calls with my family, first workout in ecuador (probably the hardest 1.5 miles i’ve ran in my life…elevation hits ya hard!!) and just resting with my friends.

I made a short video of some clips from the last couple weeks, you can watch it below!! I’m so thankful for you all and I miss you!
