Starting this week, my team and I have been helping at a school in a nearby city. Were working at an elementary school where English is not the first language. I got placed in a third grade class by myself with a teacher that doesn’t speak any English…..none, not a word. so it’s been a little bit of a struggle for me to listen to what the teacher is saying, translate it in my head, and then respond in Spanish. I usually just end up saying si and hoping for the best. It has definitely been exhausting, but the kids are so cute. They all call me Lulia since they cant really say the hard “J” sound and it’s adorable. There are 21 kids in the class and man are they a ball of energy. I don’t really remember how i acted in third grade but i feel like i wasn’t that crazy. There’s constant noise, kids always out of their seats, and a teacher that doesn’t seem to care if they’re listening or not. I say all of this to say, its chaos but I actually kind of like it. Its cool that I get to teach these kids a little bit of English. The English they learn in school will affect the rest of their lives. They’ll be able to get better jobs, they will have access to a better education, and they will have better skills that will allow them to possibly move to America. I love that I get to be such a small, but at the same time such a big part of these kids lives. Thank you for your prayers and your love. I miss you all!
