I've had countless conversations about this trip over the last few months and people tend to have a lot of the same questions. Here are answers to a few of those:
Will you have a phone while your gone? Nope. No phone, but I will have, sometimes sporadic, internet access. I'm going to bring an Ipad/tablet with me (to be purchased in the next couple months). Email and Skype will become dear to my heart. and I'll update my blog frequently so you can see what I'm doing/where I am.
How is Fundraising going? It's Awesome! I have over 2/3 of the total amount needed…about $5000 more to go. THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all of you who have given AND those who are praying for me. I have felt overwhelmingly blessed by the support I have received.
So…you're going to miss ALL of football season? That's correct. We'll just have to see how that one goes.
What exactly will you be doing? I have no idea. We will be serving along side churches/missionaries already established in each country. We will help with whatever they are already doing.
How are you going to pack for this? Very carefully. All of my possessions for 11 months, including a sleeping bag, sleeping pad and tent, will be carried on my back. I'll have about a weeks worth of clothes with me. I'll probably burn them at the end of the trip.
Are you excited/getting nervous? I never know how to answer this one. Excited: yes, but it's hard for me to picture it. There's so much going on here, it makes it seem far off, even though I know it's going to be here before I know it. As I'm working on the details of everything that goes into leaving for a trip like this, sometimes I have to sit back and remember that it was God who orchestrated this. That I did not choose this on my own. I prayerfully made this decision and have already seen God work out so many little things, that I have no business being nervous. I'm His, and He's got this.
Will you fly back for Jess (my roommate) and Kyle's wedding in October? Unfortunately no, I will not be there. Unless you count being skyped in as being there 🙂
