If you have spoken to me in the last six months you are probably familiar with the words: World Race. I have been anticipating the applications and recently got the call I was accepted! The World Race is an 11 month mission trip through 11 countries, an opportunity to live radically for the sake of Gospel. I will be leaving in July, 2015 to serve in India, Nepal, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Botswana, Swaziland, South Africa, Dominican Republic, Haiti and Jamaica.
World Racers meet the needs of the local community by working with existing ministries. This may include visiting orphans, ministering to sex trafficking victims, construction work, teaching english, leading VBS and basically anything it takes to show the community God’s incredible love for them.
As you all know, I have a huge heart for travel and have been fortunate enough to get to do quite a bit of it for my age. However, about nine months ago I began to feel dissatisfied with simply the role of tourist. I wanted to dig deeper, to really understand and get to know the people in an area to show them how loved and worthy they are.
At the same time I was processing through the experience of getting laid off shortly after moving across the country to DC. God used this time to teach me countless lessons about faith and trust. I leaned completely on him and never once felt alone through what should have been a great struggle. After four months, I was offered the job I have now, a job I didn’t even apply for, a job that fits me perfectly, that fulfills and challenges me in a way I didn’t even know I needed. God used that hardship, to show me that his plan is so much bigger and better than mine will ever be.
The other large characteristic about my job was its one year contract. Although this seemed problematic, I felt in the pit of my stomach that there was something waiting for me when the job ended; and then I discovered the World Race.
Even though my immediate reaction was fear and insecurity, I knew I was being called to missions, to serve the nations to allow my story to reflect His. He has spent the past year teaching me what that looks like and what it is, is a recklessly abandoned relationship of beauty, joy and freedom.
I am choosing to step out in faith, even if that means literally following Him around the world, to share His love with 11 incredible countries. Most people who know me know I am very driven and independent; but the Lord has finally presented me with something that I can not do alone. I want you all to be a part of my journey and to be your representative out in the field.
To participate in the World Race I need to raise $16,000 for the entire year. This will include my training, insurance, flights to 11 countries, meals and accommodation for the entirety of the trip.
I want to invite all those who believe in this ministry to be apart of the journey. I will need your support through prayer most importantly. I also want to invite you to follow along by subscribing to this blog JuliaRobertson.TheWorldRace.org and my YouTube channel Jules of the South. I am passionate about storytelling and want to share the entire experience.
