On our first night in Chiang Dao, Thailand my whole team plus 6 of our host families kids piled into the bed of a pickup to head to a Thai New Years Celebration (In Thailand they celebrate New Years for 3 weeks and this was the last night). As we headed up into the mountains the view was amazing and we were under a blanket of stars. This alone made my night and then the kids started singing worship songs first in Thai and then they started singing this song in English:
No place I’d rather be
No place I’d rather be
Then here in your love
here in your love
Set a fire down in my soul
that I can’t contain
that I can’t control
I want more of you God
I want more of you God
This picture-hist moment was the beginning of a wonderful week in Chiang Dao with the Jaha family. Aaron, Sri and their kids are the only Christians living in their village and they chose to live there because there weren’t any others Christians in the area. Aaron and Sri have two kids of their own and six kids that they have taken in through the years out of various abuse and neglect situations.
My team enjoyed a week of hanging out with the kids. They introduced us to everyday Thai life (cooking, cleaning, playing) and we introduced them to some US favorites (banana pancakes and The Lion King). While the kids were at school we would spend time praying for the village and the Jaha family.
Here’s some specific prayer requests:
Salvation for Aaron and Sri neighbors
Pray against depression & hopelessness – suicide rates are really high in Chiang Dao
Ability for Aaron and Sri to buy a house and rice field
Aaron and Sri’s kids to grow strong in the Lord
Strength for Aaron and Sri
While we were only able to spend a week with this family they left a lasting impact on my heart. Thanks for joining me in prayer for them.
