This month my teams name is Las Plumas en el Viento (The Feathers in the Wind). We named ourselves this because we are doing a month of “Unsung Heroes.” The way this month is different from other months is that instead of partnering with a ministry our job is to seek out potential ministries for the World Race/Adventures in Missions to partner with in the future. Thus we are like feathers in the wind going wherever the spirit leads us. Here’s a recap of what has happened thus far:
When we arrived in Nicaragua we spent a few days in Granada where AIM has some ministry contacts that two of our others teams are staying with this month. We , took a couple days to rest from our 60+ hours of travel and discern what was next. We were asked by the Granada contacts to check out Rivas that while only an hour from Granada lacked a lot of ministry information. We decided this would be a good move and started googling places to stay and potential ministries in the area. Our google search came up nill, nowhere to stay within budget ($5/person/night) and no ministry options. We still decided to go and see if we could find anything in person.
When we got to Rivas we asked our taxi drivers if they knew anywhere cheap to stay and they took us to a hostel that was $7.50/person/night, not within budget but cheaper than then the $10/person we were planning to pay at the only reasonable place we had been able to find online. This gave us an anchor from which we were able to explore the area. By the end of day we found a hostel that would give us a deal for $5 a night so we booked it for the next 5 nights.
Over the next few days we began to explore the area, prayer walk and meet people. Through this we became connected with several churches in the area. One of them, Maranatha, invited us to attend and outreach event they were hosting at a high school in the next city. So this last Friday (8/14) Las Plumas en el Viento piled into the back of a moving truck with several church members and their kids and headed off to share the gospel through song and dance. Since I speak limited Spanish I spent most of the day praying for the ministry that was taking place. It was great to get a chance to see this ministry in action and get to see some of the impact that this group is having in the Kingdom of God.
This is just a glimpse of what this month has looked like so far. It would take too long to share about all of the people and ministries we have come in contact with thus far and all this when we came not sure there would be anything at all.
Prayer Requests:
- Finish well: We have decided to stay in Rivas through the end of the month.
- Pray that we will honor well the relationships we have built and continue to build new relationships through the end.
- Pray that we would not grow weary and get lazy but continue to press into what God has for us each day.
- Health: Julieta’s dad Mike is very sick
