So today I decided that living in a small town really does have its charms. It has a character that a big city could never have. So today I decided to go explore that character here in Gainesville! My roommate Crystal and I started the day with breakfast at a local cafe, St. Ives.
After breakfast, we set out in memory of what put Gainesville on the map….poultry. Bet ya didn’t know that Gainesville, GA was the poultry capital of the country!! So to honor their history, the people of Gainesville have erected several chicken monuments….yeah you read that right….chicken monuments….
From there we decided to visit a little known roadside attraction… Rabbit Town! Can’t make this stuff up folks, ya really can’t. Rabbit Town is not only home to this GIANT rabbit statue, but also the delectable Rabbit Town Cafe!! From there, we drove back to the Gainesville Town Square and visited the local library. Crystal got her library card and was quite excited. The town was anxiously preparing for a bike race, so the square was in quite a bit of disarray. So Crystal and I just walked the square, stopping in the shops and eateries. We visited some ridiculously overpriced boutiques, as well as a shop straight out the UK…United Kingdom that is. Across the Pond is your one stop Gainesville shop for all things British, Scottish, or Irish! I even picked up this little beauty… It’s a charm of the Celtic Trinity symbol interlocking each other! Pretty nifty I thought!!
The square was particularly pretty today, since spring is approaching. Beautiful pink petals blossomed on the trees, creating a romantic, carefree mood.
it a day, but I continued my small town goodness by visiting Gainesville’s premier attraction….Lake Lanier. Lake Lanier is supposedly the largest man-made lake in the country. Its absolutely beautiful and I am constantly driving over it and around it, so I thought it was time to finally visit it. This park is right down the road from my apartment. I stayed until sunset and it was so worth it. There’s just something about being outside, smack in the middle of God’s creation that makes His presence closer. It’s exciting. So I hope you enjoyed my stroll through G-vegas. It was day to remember!
