Well, I’ve officially started church hunting here in
Gainesville. And to be
honest, I’m not that excited. Why? I really don’t like it. It’s not really fun.
Maybe because I loved my church back home so much. I miss my pastor, I miss my
friends, and I miss being known. I love walking in on a Monday night and
knowing half the crowd and meeting ten more. It’s fun and familiar and it’s
church to me. But here, it’s different. I barely know all the people I work with!
Much less, anyone I would want to go to church with! I’ve also discovered the
Gainesville is much further up the Bible belt than
Tampa. Oh my, churches
everywhere! Some big, some small, some with big steeples, some with cheesy
signs, and some that just blend in. So where do I start? What am I looking for
in a new church? What kind of church is going to keep me coming back Sunday after
Sunday and feel like home? I don’t know. A few weeks ago, I tried one of the
biggest churches in the country, which is only an hour from me. It was a good
service, very much like what I’m used to. But it was quite a hassle getting
there, getting in, finding a seat, feeling very lost, and then trying to get
out! Drawbacks of a big church!! So, I don’t think I’ll be making that hour
trek any more. But yesterday I tried one a bit closer, only a half hour away. And
I liked it. It was big but not too big. It was contemporary, but not watered
down. I’ll go back. And who knows, maybe I’ll find out what exactly I’m looking
for in a church.
