You will definitely notice a difference when you cross the Costa Rica/Nicaragua border, example:
Everyone stares at you way more.
Your new nick-name is “Gringo”
And there is a huge shift in who has money, and who doesn’t.
I have spent the last week and a half here in Dario, Nicaragua living a lot different than I was in Costa Rica.
The water here goes on and off quite frequently, so we usually have to fill a garbage can with with water for extra. Nicaragua recently came out of a drought, so the rain is not only a blessing to us, but also the people here.
The first week we were here, the girls on our team stayed and taught at the boys school we’re here at (Light & Salt Ministries), while the guys and myself went out to install barbed wire at a piece of land on the outskirts of the town.
Now, I realized something when I came here to Nicaragua:
The Sun hates me.
To be honest, I am usually fine without sunscreen and can tan pretty well without getting burnt. NOT THE CASE.
My burn actually got so bad, my back and shoulders look like a Picasso piece. So next time I’ll definitely put on sun screen. (Sorry Mom)
This week we’ve helping out at the boys school, and I can honestly say, It’s so much fun. The boys love playing sports, playing chess, learning english, and learning more about the Bible. They are so much fun to work with.
There is Beauty here in Nicaragua.
There is poverty here in Nicaragua.
There is need here in Nicaragua.
You should visit.
