I’m sure you’ve all been waiting to hear from me!
I would like to apologize for the extended wait, and say that the reason is because I have been doing a “technology fast” my first 2 weeks in country.
I have experienced exciting and beautiful things here in Costa Rica. My experience working with the kids here at Zoe International Christian School in San Pedro has been amazing and incredibly fun (even though the kids laugh at me ’cause I don’t know a word of Spanish). I had the privilege to be here during Costa Rica’s independence day, and was present at the festival in Heredia. The drums and marching bands shook my very innards. So far I have met numerous people that I have made good friendships with, and will keep in contact with for the rest of my life.
I have also had some terrifying experiences too.
#1. Realizing that it doesn’t matter how steep the hill or slippery the ground, everyone here in Costa Rica tries to make passing someone, a near death experience every single time. (who needs seatbelts right?)
#2 Literally kicking down a bathroom door to save my teammate from eating toilet paper for dinner (Don’t worry, he had a can of pringles with him for some reason).
#3 And understanding that the fruit here is free if you can pick it, you just have to go through dozens of spiders the size of your hand. (Pro tip: Make sure you check your sleeping bag every time.)
Aside from all the lethal hilarity, I’ve got to tell you about the worship.
I don’t know what kind of walk of life you are in right now, but to worship God in song, dance, and even different languages really changes your way of intimacy with him. In a good way.
The coolest thing I got to experience yet was having the pastor call me up, mid-way through worship, and asking me to play a song. A song I knew very well actually. It was one I’ve led in church many times before: “Dancing Generation.”
Leading my Team-mates, and community in worship was the most spiritual thing I think I’ve ever experienced. Honestly you guys, I was in tears by the end of it.
I’ve never cried tears of joy before, and I never thought I would.
Tomorrow there is an event we are holding for the school kids that we will have to wake up very early for and set up, so I would ask that you pray for my rest, and that I would be energized and prepared for tomorrows event.
Until my next blog,
Audios!
