Today is the first time since I left the US that I felt like I was actually a part of something bigger. The wife of the pastor we’re staying with leaves tomorrow morning so today we had a rest day and spent time with the family. We helped them make Momo which is a Nepali dish that’s dumplings with a strange concoction of chicken and other things inside. It is so delicious!
After our meal Auntie (pastor’s wife) and her sister Anita that has been helping make us food and stuff told us to remain seated for a small gift. Then Anita came out with a small bag and handed each girl a pair of beautiful ear rings. These people have hardly any money and she went out and bought all five of the girls a pair of ear rings for no reason at all. Then Auntie came out with a bag and gave all five girls a bag of hair clips and a bracelet as well as a Nike bracelet for both boys. I almost cried I was so happy. They were so excited to give these gifts to us when we have done nothing to deserve them.
Later on Sam got a text from our main contact saying he received a phone call from Pastor saying our team has become more than missionaries to them, we are now family. When we first got here we complained so much. Now I can’t imagine any where else I would rather be. These people have cared for us and doctored us and loved us as if we were there own children. The have scolded us, laughed with us, and spoiled us beyond belief. They showed us such kindness when our hearts definitely weren’t in the right place to receive it. God really has taught me this month not to be so quick to jump to conclusions. I thought when we first got here we’d be lucky if we managed to survive this month. We did more than survive. We’ve grown closer and stronger than I ever could’ve imagined. I miss my family so much in America, but God sure has blessed me with a great one in Nepal.
When you sponsor a child it not only provides a hot meal, clean water, discipleship, and basic medical care for the child, it also supports their family by inviting them through the gates of the CarePoint to receive training, discipleship and mentorship.
