On Friday we got the chance to see one of the villages that were affected by a volcanic eruption. It was shocking to see the destruction and the devastation. Once arriving in Guatemala, I was excited to see the volcano, as it is still active, but I never thought of the thousands of lives that were affected by it. We got off the bus and walked down the street that used to lead into people’s lives, only to see destruction. It was crazy to see, and we came across a few families that were trying to put their lives back together in all of the destruction. They went through so much. One family that we talked to lost 22 family members from the eruption. They were trying to find hope and rebuild in a time that seemed very hopeless.

Here are a few pictures of what we saw:

These are just a few of the things I saw. We will try and return there to see what we may be able to help with. Right now, I encourage you to be praying for all of the people affected by the eruption. Even though it happened last year, the rebuilding and recovery process has been very slow. Only a couple of families have returned to the place that they once called home.
