Before I begin to speak about fear I want to start off by having you read Psalm 27:1
The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
David wrote these words while being in constant pursuit by his enemies. If anyone ever had reason to fear he did. However, David understood he was protected by his Father in heaven. I am sure many of you have dealt with fear. I certainly have too. Let me share an example of fear from my childhood. I have three lovely sisters. Two in particular lived in the house with me. They loved to scare their little brother in the dark (I spare you the details as to not cause fear). So I became terrified of the dark. I could feel that nothing good could happen in the dark. I did not know what was out there in my way or who was out there to bring me harm. The only solution was to sleep with the light on and the door open. I knew with the light on there was reason to be scared of the dark. Where there is light there is no darkness. And I knew with the door open my mom would always be close to protect me.
Reading this example of my life you may have started to see how it relates to our relationship with the Father. When you are in the darkness of this world you do not know what stands in front of you. You do not know who is out there to bring you harm. So there is some reason to fear the unknown. The beautiful part is when you receive Christ in your heart you walk in the light. The Father is light and wherever He is there is no darkness. The fear of the unknown in the darkness is no longer a worry. You have the Spirit living inside of you so where you walk he walks. And his door is always open when you have trials or hard times. He is always there to bring light to the situation. You no longer have to fear what stands before you.
The fears you may have in your life the Father wants you to give them up to him. As sons and daughters we have no reason to fear. When you pray for his protection He is always there to provide it. And as you begin to realize you walk with the light it leaves you with a responsibility. You are charged with bringing the light you have in you to those who still stand in darkness. I am sure you have read Psalms 23:4 or heard it:
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
Even though you may have to walk into dark situations for the salvations of others you have no reason to fear. Your Father is the great comforter. So when those around do not know how to escape the darkness around them you bring the light you have within you and you show them the Way.
