Keleti-Pu Train Station, Budapest, Hungary
When you sign up for the World Race and start reading the blogs, you always hear about travel days.
Crazy
Full of Adventure
I had no idea how true that could be when we set off from Dublin, Ireland to head to Timisoara, Romania. So as my title communicates, my latest travel day involves me left at a train station in Romania. Before we get there though, let’s take a few steps back to overview this incredible adventure!
We were all sitting in the Dublin airport fresh from the incredible experience that was The Awakening; imagine over 300 World Racers worshiping and passionately pursuing the Lord for a week in Ireland. As we were awaiting our flight to Budapest, Hungary with a few other teams, we heard that lovely Irish voice come over the intercom and inform us of an hour delay.
No big deal right? Only problem is we have a train to catch in Hungary to get to Romania… and now we have an hour less to get there.
FAST FORWARD to Hungary
All of our teams had touched down in Budapest and every bag had been accounted for except one, Colby’s guitar. The other team leaders and I had just figured out that our only option to make the train that was leaving in an hour was to hire 3 airport shuttles to take our teams to the train station that’s a half-hour away. I was doing my Joshua pace, praying that the Lord gets Colby and Jessica out to us with the guitar just in time, when out they walk at the very last minute as the shuttles arrive. God loves to answer my prayers too literally some times!
FAST FORWARD to Keleti-Pu Train Station – Budapest, Hungary
Tommy, Phillip, Megan, and I all stand in a wing of the train station with no idea where to buy tickets or where the train leaves from. So we begin to run around looking with less than 30 minutes till our train is supposed to leave. Megan and Phillip head one way and Tommy and I head another to try to speed things up.
You know that guy from the movies; he’s at the train station, smoking a cigarette, offers to help you, and seems all kinds of shady? Tommy and I met him. We told him where we trying to go and he jumped in to help us.
Now common sense is screaming, “BAD IDEA, BAD IDEA.”
But as I prayed, the Spirit kept saying, “It’s OK, IT’S OK!!”
So we decided to follow him! To explain those next few minutes could be its own blog but it involved:
Jumping off a train platform, running across the tracks, through a train car, etc.
Meeting with the train conductor on a dark platform to discuss a “discount”
Lots and Lots of Running
A few people running to hop on 2 minutes before the train leaves the station
Everyone on the train in time
I know, I know, we haven’t even gotten to Romania yet… but you’ll have to read Part 2 to find out how it ends!
