I’m leaving for Haiti … in 23 days. You might be asking
yourself, “I thought he was leaving this summer to do that?!”. Well, I still
am, but God is calling me to go before that, during my spring break.
Like so many others this past month, I have wanted to do
whatever I could to help those in Haiti. So I did the only things I knew how to
do; pray and set about raising money at my University. I also felt a desire to
go sooner than my time in July and August on the World Race; so I prayed that
if it was God’s will, He would open the doors.
Well, needless to say, the doors have been opened.
Adventures in Missions (the organization that does The World Race) sent out an
email 2 weeks ago about upcoming trips to Haiti. When I looked at the dates,
there just happened to be a trip the exact dates of my Spring Break. After a
lot of prayer, I applied and was accepted. I laid down my deposit without a
clue of how I was going to pay for this trip or how I would even get there.
However last night as I lay awake wondering and praying if
this was the right decision, I heard God speak, “Read Isaiah 61.” I rolled
over, grabbed my Bible, and this is what I read:
Sovereign LORD is on me,
brokenhearted,
prisoners,
year of the LORD’s favor
those who grieve in Zion-
the ancient ruins
I don’t understand the timing, but I know God is calling me
to take part in what He is doing in Haiti. He is restoring this country long
devastated. He is bestowing crowns of beauty, giving the oil of gladness, and
garments of praise. HE IS WORKING in this situation in incredible ways!! I am
thrilled that He is allowing me to go and take part in it first hand in a few
weeks!
However I need some help getting there! How you ask?
- If you or
anyone you know has U.S. Airways or Delta flight miles or flight vouchers,
those can be pooled together to get a plane ticket! - If you would like to donate financially, it will cost
approximately $390 for travel, food, and lodging while in Haiti.
Feel free to call me or email me at [email protected] to talk more about
supporting me. I’m excited to be able to share this journey with you all!
Kingdom Come,
Joshua Maisner
