Coming to Africa, I had no idea what I to expect.
I heard a lot about it and how amazing it was from friends. For me I wasn’t that interested in it. I always thought it was for the typical Christian short term missionary trip. I had put it on the back burner. I was really excited for South East Asia and Eastern Europe, but not necessarily Africa. I thought I was going to be in the bush, or I wasn’t going to have any electricity and I was going to eat lentils for every meal.
…The stereotypical thoughts…
I found myself in the town of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. Here they don’t eat lentils for every meal, and they have coffee shops with wifi. I know some areas are poorer than others, but the whole mindset of Africa as this rural continent that is not developed at all was easily put in my mind from movies and other propaganda. I had a local tell me the same thoughts when I first came here. He said “We don’t all live in the middle of nowhere and hunt for our food”. I find God stripping my assumption of places and people away. It’s a good thing not to have assumptions in your life.
My ministry hosts are named Adam and Vicky and are, by far, the most godly couple I have ever met. Without even trying, Adam’s teaching me how it looks to be a godly husband and Vicky is showing me how a godly woman lives. They live life with God in the center, every word is full of grace, and they edify each other. For the 3 weeks I’ve been here, I have not heard one negative word from their mouth. I could say so much about them, but you really should just come to Zimbabwe to meet them!
During my time here, our team has been doing a lot of outreach and preaching, from visiting hospitals, schools, kids clubs, and even a mental ward. I will be sharing in future blog posts of what I’ve been experiencing and what God has been teaching me during my time here in Zimbabwe.
I’m going to be posting a lot more so please subscribe I won’t always blast it on social media.
Thank you so much!
