Not in a building, Under a Tree

Due to flooding in Mozambique we ended up in Malawi. A very small country here in Africa that I knew nothing about. One that I actually wasn’t to excited to going to when we found out. But the unexpected turn has led to an amazing month of ministry. We found our selves sleeping in tents, heavy rain for days at a time, and no idea what was in store.

We met a preacher that would be our primary contact. Four to five of us would head to two different villages. Both on roads that a four wheel drive at times wouldn't dare to travel, much less a twelve passenger mini bus/old toyota van with twenty one passengers packed in, as well as two goats tied up and shoved under the seats on occasions. Great public transportation, let me tell ya. We would arrive into these villages where missionaries have never been. White people, or, Azungoo are almost a tourist attraction. And let me say, that all you have heard about it being dangerous for americans is so far off base. The two African countries I have visited thus far have been by far the best for hospitality and the most friendly people than any country I have been to.

So, we would arrive at these villages, split into teams with our translators and head out to see where the dusty village roads and paths lead. We talked to so many people, some knew Christ, some didn’t, and more often than not most couldn’t wait to hear all about the Gospel and accept Jesus in their hearts! It was like God gave us bags of seeds and said, Start spreading! Both of these villages were great. So many people came to Christ, I even had the opportunity to speak to a muslim woman that had a burning desire to accept Jesus at the end of our conversation.

At the end of the week, we planted a new church. I had the pleasure of preaching at “Church” that day. Not church as we think of it. Not some big over priced building that we can slap a denomination on the front of and start focusing on tithing. But a church started under a tree in the middle of a field in Malawi Africa. A church where goats and donkeys grazed around us, where children played with men and women wanting nothing more than Jesus, sat in the grass and dirt to be a part of something amazing!

The church Jesus calls us to.

I was so honored and blessed to have been apart of this new Church. I now have a baby in Africa. I have something that will always be here, Something here to always pray for, Something that my team was so blessed and honored to be a part of starting, Something that we see on TV but don’t really look twice at, at times.

This was only one area of this journey. So fresh and early into the month. And to see how God is working in Africa is like none I’ve seen thus far in my journey.

There is so much more to come, and I am loving Africa so much!
