Sound so amazing right now!!! Then again, Ice water already sounds soo good!

Okay, so travels to Chicago via train went well! Launch in Chicago was great! And im already we’re already about done with our first week here in the Dominican… Crazy!

We started with a 7 hour wait in the airport when we arrived in the DR for the rest of our group (Our flight was first, so half of my squad left the hotel in Chi Town for the airport at 3:20 am). Around 10pm we drove about 2 more hours to arrive at  a contacts house where about 50 of us poured in and slept anywhere we could find, some on beds, some of floors. We woke up the next day, took some time to learn the culture, then slowly throughout the morning/early afternoon our teams left a few at a time.

My team piled into a Toyota pickup, 4 in the front, and 3 in the back along with our translator. After piling all of our packs in we were literally sitting on top of the packs bedrail high with our heads above the cab. Such a great way to start the trip! We drove about an hour and half this way through some beautiful mountains arriving at a small town near the border of Haiti by the name of Comendador (Google map it). We have to walk about a mile to town everyday for any needs we have or to do our ministry.

We have been so fortunate. We are staying with a pastor, his wife and two small children. Non speak english so its great we have a translator. It is a very povern area yet most people have such amazing attitudes towards life. We have been working at a school doing clean up work, trimming bushes, mowing, weed eating witnessing to the children and just building relationships with them. The feed back we have been recieving has been amazing. The pastor is already noticing that the kids have been wanting to help and make a difference there since the “Ameicans” are there to help them. They are approaching us the more we’re there and wanting to learn about our lifes, and to learn about the Gospel as well. It is so great!

Today we walked a bout one and a half miles to a small village where it was a very poor community! We just walked around, went door to door approaching anyone we felt led, started conversations about life and prayed before we left. They were so happy to have us there. We are talking a break until later this evening where we will goto a church service at 7. We are on East Coast time so we didn’t have a sleeping adjustment. We have been very fortunate and blessed thus far. Only a week in and all is great!

There will be A LOT more to come so stay posted! Mean while i might try to locate a iced honey bun before i leave this month!
