So when I talk about chapters ending or beginning I’m talking about friendships ending or beginning, relationships ending or beginning, setting out on a new journey, starting or quitting a job, finishing or beginning school, and other things of the sort. No matter what your life looks like or has looked like, we all go through different chapters in our lives. Some are happier than others. Some may be filled with more pain and sorrow than others.

For example, I have two chapters in my life that are starting and ending right around the same time. I recently experienced the loss of my grandfather the night before Father’s Day. As I’m writing this I’m sitting at launch for the World Race, which marks the beginning of an 11 month journey/chapter in my life where I’m sure I’ll experience many more chapters in my life.

As you can see from the example above, the loss of my grandfather marks the end of a chapter in my life, and the start of my World Race journey marks the start of another. And chapters are constantly starting and ending in our lives.

If we follow the theme of chapters then I think ultimately we can view our life as a book. Sometimes it’s really hard to change chapters. Sometimes we want to continue a chapter longer than it’s meant to be continued. Or maybe we even begin chapters that were never meant to be written. Sometimes chapters in our lives have “to be continued” written in them as certain things in our lives are put on hold.

Ultimately what I have found in this talk about chapters and what the Lord has been revealing to me is not something extremely profound or even that complicated. Sticking with the theme of a book, the Lord spoke these things to me, “If you’re looking at your life in chapters, and you want the best book, make sure you aren’t the author.”

You see, I’ve tried many times in my life to “write my own story.” And basically I’ve found that it never works out the way I want or the way I intended. Every time I’ve tried to write my own story I’ve found myself at some of the deepest parts of my life.

So, if you’re looking for your life to be the best book it can be, make sure you aren’t the author. Hand your life completely over to God and allow Him to have his way in you and write His love upon your heart.
