Yesterday we took a road trip (8hrs) just a little north of
the city of Coban. We literally had to hike up the side of a mountain, and then
we got to the town.
I couldn’t
believe there were actually people that really live like this. It blew my mind. I felt like I was in
the show LOST, but the show made it look far more appealing than it is in real
life. We met the pastor and his family
and that’s when God pierced my heart and melted away my
pride. We were there with some electricians
because the church needed some lights so they could read the Bible at night.
Pastor Luis told us that some people walk 3 hours one way to come to church
because they are so excited to hear about Jesus. 3 hours ONE WAY~ would I do that? Would you? I want to say,
“of course I would”, but I know in my heart that’s not true. We complain when the worship music
doesn’t suit our preference, and they walk 3 hours one way just to hear about
our Wonderful Jesus. Who am I that God is mindful of me? Why was I born in
America with comfort and everything at my fingertips and they were born into poverty
on the side of a mountain? This is their house~ for 10 people..
But then I see their smiles, oh how precious the
sight of them. They are so full of
joy and love, a kind that you very rarely see.. They have a roof over their
heads and each other, but they are richer than most Americans I know.I was so humbled by the way they honored us and kept praising God for bringing us to them. This was dinner..
and this was the crime scene…
They killed a duck, a hen, and a rooster just for us, and as we ate the food they prepared for us their children sat and watched. We had asked the Pastor how we could pray for them and he told us that him and his wife have 8 kids, and five of them are in school right now. He said that work is hard to find right now and he is worried about making enough to keep them in school so he asked for pray for that. Before we left our team decided that we could sacrifice some of the team’s funds for all five of them to be in school for a year. It know I said this in my last blog, but it was the most beautiful thing I have ever experienced. The look on their faces, as tears of gratefulness came flowing down! Knowing that to us, its money that wont even be missed, and to them it was such a huge blessing from God, and just another sign of His provision and faithfulness. Just imagine how many we could reach if we all reached out! We could absolutely change the world.=D
We had the honor of going to one of
their church services and wow, the passion these people had, they prayed in
their native language Que’chi so we couldn’t understand them, but man could we
feel the power behind their prayers! It was so beautiful, their genuine love
for Jesus, in a room with a dirt floor and plastic chairs, and for the 1st
time some lights! No comfort, no air conditioning, no comfy chairs or fancy
music, just them and God! They had nothing, but they had EVERYTHING, for they had true life!
