Things are different here in Uganda.. We are in a little town in the middle of no where called Lwamata.
Last month we were in Nairobi,
Kenya, so although we were in Africa, we were still in a city setting. This
month, however, there is not much around!
Internet is hard to come by this
month, so forgive us for not updating our blogs as often. I want to share some
of the awesome pictures from my birthday, and also give you guys a wrapping up the month blog for last month.. but that will just have to wait until
we get better internet.. But don’t worry, I didn’t forget!
Any ways..
This month we are working with Pastor Noah, at his church, and his school for
orphans.
And we also had a divine appointment this month with the only two
other MOZOONGOOS that have ever been to this town. (It’s what they all yell
when they see us white people..) They are two Australian’s that are building an
orphanage in another village close by, and they are starting everything from
the ground up! They desire to not only provide a home for these children, but
to also teach them skills that they can use to make a living, so once they are
old enough, they can actually have a chance at life. Aside from the orphanage they are slowly
making a difference in the whole village! They found this elderly woman who’s
house is built out of straw an is beginning to fall apart. She has a grand
daughter that she can no longer care for, and Brian and Jan (the Australian couple)
told her that she could come to their orphanage.
The elderly woman asked, with
fear in her voice, ” but then who will fetch me water and fire wood? I cannot
do this on my strength.”
Here is a
little girl fetching water.. (Our white skin scared her~ so that’s why she’s
crying.. woops!)
In that moment God
gave them a wonderful idea! They will teach their orphans to have a servant’s
heart, and they will fetch water and fire wood for all the elderly widows in
need in this village!
Now backing
up a few sentences to the elderly woman’s house.. This is where we get to come
in! We are going to build her a house out of mud because her straw house won’t
make it through many more rainy days. When we are done, this is what her house will look like.
We are so excited to do this for her!
Sometimes on this race it can be easy to become overwhelmed when we see so much
need and don’t know how to help. But in this instance we see a need, and we can
meet it! One person, one need, one life~
that will forever be touched by God’s love. After all, that is what life is all
about.. God’s love. And even though we are just helping one person, through
helping that one person we are bringing light to that whole village!
James 1:27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
p.s. On a random note.. Here is a picture of a three-legged
bull with the biggest horns I have ever seen!
