Some people have a way about their lives that just wrecks what society has engrained into hearts for generations; completely uprooting norms that have been set in place to accommodate worldly ways and views. I love it.

If you don’t know who Bob Goff is, please check him out via social media, online, or grab a copy of his book Love Does. Bob is a true role model of mine, because the guy takes what Jesus says to the heart and loves without boundaries or conditions. It’s a beautiful thing. One life motto that Bob lives by that has forever changed me, is that every Thursday he QUITS something. Now usually people associate a negative connotation with the word “quit”, but Bob views it in a different light. It is more like, if you quit something in your life that is dull or non-constructive, it opens doors to fill the new void with something better or something you are more passionate about. Makes sense. Let’s take it  a step further and go from quitting physical jobs/activities to quitting issues of the heart! Most of us walk around with our cups full to the brim with stuff that this life throws at us: fear, self-doubt, envy, denial, pride. To put it plainly, quitting these issues of the heart allows more room for God to move in and through us. Not many quit enough to empty their cups so that they can be filled by and trust the love of God…

It has been a couple of weeks now since I departed from training camp in Georgia. I would have posted sooner, but it is always hard to find the words to put on paper when you know that words can never fully portray people or situations in just the right light. But I think I have finally come up with some words for how I would describe my new 54 family members. In the best way possible, they are a bunch of QUITTERS!

We are 55 members of the same body that have, through life’s ups and downs, had our hearts transformed by Jesus to become the engaged believers we are today. My squad is bold and empowered through the love of Jesus. They do not let fear establish the limits of their lives or dreams. They do not become paralyzed in fear because of the consumption of self-reliance, but rather live courageously stepping past all comfort zones because they are God reliant. They quit fear. They quit living for themselves. And in doing so they completely wrecked some people’s views of what this life is all about. Not a life bound by fear or things of this world, but rather a life lived free, daring, and lovingly thanks to the Lord. I am blessed to be able to serve with these friends for the next 11 months, and I can’t wait to see lives changed for the better because of their willingness to “quit” so that they may be made whole and make others whole.

“Being engaged is a way of doing life, a way of living and loving. It’s about going to extremes and expressing the bright hope that life offers us, a hope that makes us brave and expels darkness with light. That’s what I want my life to be all about – full of abandon, whimsy, and in love.” -Bob Goff
