Pumpkin.  Cherry.  Apple.  If you’re feeling a little frisky, Key Lime might just do the trick.  However, Shanda, Dre, Ashley, Pamela, Dan, and I aren’t fatties with an inordinate affinity for baked goods.  And our team name is NOT team pie…

we are Team Pi.

For those of you uncertain as to why we would choose a math term as our team name, let me explain.  The process began with an aimless drive in the blue kazoo (a sleek, early 90’s volvo station wagon) through the Gainesville countryside.  We were all in the car singing Journey songs (we ususally didn’t get too far past the chorus) when the first idea struck:  Team Journey.  Catchy.  Applicable.  Somewhat outdated.  It was a good start, but the search needed to continue.  Sticking with our 80’s hair band moniker, I immediately blurted out what seemed to be a great name:  Team Def Leppard.  Suprisingly, no takers.  And so the search continued.

As we came upon a small river which we pretended was the Chattahoochee (this time I bit my tongue, having learned my lesson from the Def Leppard debacle), we walked along its banks in search of inspiration.  Reflecting on the previous night’s teaching from Matthew about the 42nd generation, someone suggested the name Pi.  In the geneology listed in Matthew there are 3 sets of 14 generations listed for a total of 42.  The 42nd generation represents Christ and His heirs who will inherit the Kingdom of God.  The common numerical representation of Pi is 3.14.  Symbolism…we’re making progress.  When we learned more about Pi, we found that it’s a circular constant whose diameter is 1.  So when we come together as one cohesive unit, we’ll be working to fulfill God’s plan for the 42nd generation.  Symbolism and Biblical meaning – we have a winner!

So there you have it, the origins of team Pi.

And in case you’re wondering, we do like the baked goods too!
