I HATE MOSQUITOES
That's all I was really going to say, but this actually made me realize something funny..
I started the race in Zambia month one, in the African bush. The blood sucking monsters were pretty bad there. Extremely annoying to say the least. The enemy used them to steal much of my joy.
Month three in Swazi was pretty bad too. It was waaay too hot to sleep with the windows closed but we had no choice lest we be eaten alive all night. Still the little critters always seemed to find their way in. Already musty and hot in the room, sweating to death at night, we had to sleep completely covered by our blankets to keep from getting bitten. Many times we went without sleep, scratching all night.
This month, número 6 in India, is another mosquito month. The ones here may be the worst yet. Big fatty ones.
But what's interesting is that it almost doesn't seem as bad. Maybe I've gotten so used to them I don't really care anymore. Currently my arms, ankles, and neck are covered in fat welt-like bites.
I've always wondered of the purpose of mosquitoes besides being agents of torment and agony. There's always talk about why things exist like spiders and snakes. We should kill them all! But no.. That would affect the perfectly balanced ecosystem and throw everything off.
But I do believe scientific research has been done, amateur or not, that found eliminating all mosquitoes from the face of the earth would have no lasting negative effect on this wonderful planet or its inhabitants. Many have dedicated their life long careers to rid the world of these disease carriers.
Maybe their only purpose is to torment and agonize. I feel in the past few months God has taught me a little more patience and joy through the endless nights battling the elusive insects in the dark.
BUT EVEN SO! I don't think it's worth all the pain they cause in this world. If ever God calls me to a foreign country to serve, all I ask, the one thing I ask, is that He not send me to a place infested with mosquitoes.. They are the bane of my existence. KILL EM ALL!!!!
