Big faith
Today we arrived at Lacama which is an amazing jungle village out in northern Guatemala. We took a 3 hour drive from Antigua through the mountains and reach this small village. The first few minutes when we arrived in the village was a little funny. This village is all Mayan Indians that still live like they did hundreds of years ago. They speak there own Indian language called Quiche “Key-Cha” Well this afternoon we were taken by Pastor Manuel sons through the jungle to see water falls, amazing fields, the best fruits ever grown, and really thick trails. This was truly a crazy walk. I mean “I’m form the south so walking in the woods is not a big deal.” This hike is surely World Race worthy. We walked on the sides of cliffs, walked across wooden planks, jumped rocks, hide from the rain, oh yeah can’t forget the huge water fall that was so beautiful. That afternoon the pastors family prepared a steak dinner for us. WOW!!! This family could open up a steak house if they wanted too. Last time I had meat cook by Indians it was really hard to chew and didn’t have any taste. “Ask Seth” Well this family has it going on! The best part of the day was our night time pray with the family. We found out that Pastor Manuel is building a large church for the community. This man reminds me of Pastor Duane. He has great plans for this community and has faith that this community needs and more importantly faith that this world needs to see. God is really doing a great work here in Lacama. This pastor is building a church that is really big for this area and believing God to fill it completely. The church is being built dept free, and has an amazing staff that work everyday on the church. This man and his family are such a blessing to this community and have such a heart for the people to know God. The first night that we were here we prayed and sang a few songs with them, The spirit of God fell quick. We spook some amazing things over there lives and God really confirmed things that they had been believing for. I know that God has brought us here for church construction, but also to give this family new hope or a second wind. They have truly been through a lot as a family and are believing God for great things. The next three weeks are going to be very interesting.
Three days into the jungle, we have to ask each other what day it is. Time seems to run away with the fun times in this culture. Our language barriers are falling by the seconds as we both are learning more about each other. I would be lying if I said I didn’t miss home, but only desiring home to be experiencing this wonder time along the side of me. I was able to share a word to the church this Sunday. “Not the easiest thing I’ve done” Learning to work with a translator can be difficult. I find myself having trouble thinking slow enough for them to translate. Over time I’m sure it will become easier. ” I Hope!! ” HAHAH
We have two more wonderful weeks doing construction in Lacama. Please pray for our teams in this particular place. There are a few individuals that are dealing with physical issues. The conditions here are very poor. We have been sleeping in tents, showering outside, and dealing with really cold weather, which was really unexpected. We have also been eating some really interesting things in the village, one of my personal favorites was pasta. Well not really!! Half way through the meal I realized that it was boiled noodles and mayo. Yes…… just mayo. My stomach has not been the same sense. Welcome to Guatemala.
Love you guys and thank you so much for your support during this adventure. I miss you all!!!
