So we’re here! Phnom Penh turned into a tiny mountain village 2.5 hours away from the city. We are staying with a family in their home upstairs. We have electricity for one hour a night via a generator, no running water, and rice 3 meals a day….Welcome to the World Race. Expecations-out the window. Honestly, I couldn’t be happier in some senses. I don’t like being out of communication. However, living in such simple terms is actually really appealing to me. One problem: our bags got lost on our flight, and additionally, when they go to pick the 30 other bags up at the airport this morning, our 6 will be brough (please, Father willing) by a man who lives close to our village tomorrow afternoon.
So, I’m wearing the same outfit for the 3rd day in a row. We were lucky enough to find toothbrushes at a little stand nearby, so I finally got to brush my teeth. We slept on the floor last night, and since none of our packs made it, that means no sleeping pad either. No one better ever complain about an uncomfortable mattress when I get back : ) I hung my hammock up in the lofted room, and if I can rig a mosquito net to it, I will sleep in that for the rest of the month, or until our packs arrive. The family we are staying with is SO kind and takes care of our needs more abundantly than needed. I am so thankful to how graciously they have served us thus far, and how happy they are to do it.
We will be working in the Teen Challenge ministry this month, teaching English, music, and Bible to teenage boys who are in the program as recovering drug addicts. I’m not sure if we will get a chance to drive back to this internet cafe (40 mins away) again before we leave this month. If not, I will be without internet for the next 24 days; I will be at debrief on November 10th or 11th. Please cover my team with prayers of safety and health, and pray the spirit will manifest itself in our efforts this month. Thank you for all your continued support; With much love and appreciation,
Jordan
