God has been teaching me some really good stuff lately and I really want to share with you all what I’m learning. I believe it is profound and it is beginning to change my life. I hope it impacts you as well!
This lesson I’m learning is on Faith. The writer of Hebrews says in Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”
And again he defines it in verse 6 saying, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. (NIV)
I like to read the Message version every now and then and the way it was worded really stuck out to me.
It’s says, “It’s impossible to please God apart from faith. And why? Because anyone who wants to approach God must believe both that He exists and that He cares enough to respond to those who seek Him.”
What I took from that is that faith is not just believing that God is BIG ENOUGH. It is believing that He is GOOD ENOUGH.
My whole life, I believed God existed. I believed that He is a Big God who is fully capable of doing any task in Heaven and on earth. He is omnipotent (all powerful) and omniscient (all knowing). I knew these things full well.
But…
What I have been learning is that God is also super LOVING.
1 John 4:16 tells us that God is love. There are multiple words in the Greek for love.
Agape – Unconditional love
Eros – Love, mostly of the sexual passion. An intimate love.
Philia – Affectionate regard, friendship and brotherly love.
Storge – Love and affection, especially of parents and children.
God designed us to love and be loved in all these ways. He loves us personally in each of these. He is the best lover in the whole universe.
If you have been following my blogs or have simply been involved in my life the past 3 years, you would know that God has been really teaching me His lover side. I understood the mind of God pretty well, but the heart of God was a whole new thing.
So when it came to learning about faith, I knew God was Big enough to do miracles in my life, but I didn’t believe that He would actually do it for me because I didn’t really know His love for me.
I didn’t believe in my heart that He was “a rewarder of those who earnestly seek Him”. I didn’t believe in my heart that He cared enough to “respond to those who seek Him”.
After coming to this truth, I have learned that God loves me a lot more than I realized. He actually loves to do miracles in our lives because He is glorified when it happens. He loves to prove His faithfulness to His children. He is waiting for us to trust in Hos goodness and love and watch Him do a miracle. But so often we get stuck in believing that God COULD do a miracle and don’t believe that He WANTS to do a miracle.
There is a Christian saying that says, “God is good? ALL THE TIME! All the time? GOD IS GOOD! We know this in our minds to be true, true, true. But in our hearts we question it often.
God is good and desires to bless us.
Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
Luke 12:32 “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.”
My encouragement to you is to trust in His goodness. He loves you because He loves you because He loves you! Get to know His heart for you and trust that He desires to bless you, give you the Kingdom, give you the desires of your heart, and reward those who earnestly seek Him!
