Healing is a very fun topic for me. In my first year of Bible College I started taking an intrest in it. It grew into a deep passion and although I haven’t even seen too many healings after praying for people, I am still enthusiastic about it and will continue to learn how to bring healing to people God’s way.

The other day I heard a sermon from a Britsh guy in South Africa. He came here to do ministry and preached on Sunday evening. I got a lot out of His message. It’s from the passage in 2 Kings 5 if you would like to read it.

There once lived a man named Naaman. He was no ordinary man. He was a general of the king of Aram. Aram was an enemy of Israel, God’s people. He probably killed many people in his life time and was a man of great power, influence and wealth due to his position. Something else Naaman had was leprosy.

Naaman decided to go to the God of Israel to see if He would heal him.

The amazing thing is that God did!

You see, God wasn’t looking at the nationality of Naaman. He wasn’t looking at his high position or money. God ignored the fact that he worshipped other idols and that he killed and enslaved many of God’s people.

God was looking at a human being that He created. God loved Naaman despite his sinful life. God was willing to heal him of his leprosy.

No matter where someone is at in life, God desires to heal His creation. Whether deep in sin like Naaman, or as righteous as Jesus, God is willing to heal people.

I believe too often though, we want people to get healed in the way we want. We often lay hands on people and expect them to get healed that way. And sometimes they do. But there is more than one way in the Bible that Jesus healed people. Here is quick list on a few ways God healed people.

-By the faith of the person praying for healing

-By the faith of the person receiving the healing

-Casting out demons

-Person acting in obedience for something God said to do

-Repenting of Sin

-Exucia (Greek word for the physical power of God entering the body)

You see, God heals people in more ways than just simply praying for them. Jesus says in John 5:19, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by Himself; He can do only what He sees His Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does“. It’s not so much an issue of “Does God heal every time?” It’s a matter of “Does God want to bring healing in His way?” Which I believe is “Yes”. God wants to partner with us to bring healing to His world. If He wanted, He could heal everyone in the world in 1 second. But God desires to work with us. He wants us to listen to Him and obey what He is saying.

God spoke through the prophet Elisha and told Naaman to wash in the Jordan river 7 times. As soon as Naaman obeyed and washed, he was clean.

Like Naaman, God can work with you to bring healing to yourself and others. Listen to His voice and obey what He asks you to do. It may be something random like Naaman’s task of washing in a specific river 7 times.

God’s heart is to be in relationship with His children. He doesn’t enjoy watching them suffer. Many people think that because God didn’t choose to heal them, it must be God’s will. I don’t believe that. Jesus was a perfect representation of God on this earth and everyone who came to Him got healed. But it happened the way the Father planned. Jesus was intune with the Father so much that He knew which way God wanted to heal each person. We have that same access when the Holy Spirit dwells in us. Listen to His voice and obey.

So even though I am teaching this, I fail a lot in this area. When I see a sick person, my natural religious action is to go and lay hands on the person and ask God to heal them. And there is nothing wrong with that. But what I am not doing is asking the Father, “Okay Dad, what are You doing here? I want to be apart of that.” I am learning to do this and am excited to see the results when I get better at it.
