If some of you look at my first few blogs, you will see that “Bekah Troyer’s Story” is the title of one of them. Without knowing it the first day I met her, we were going to be on a team.
This is a blog about her and her obedience and courage in the Lord.
Bekah wasprobably the shyest person on the squad. She had a lot going on in her brain, but not a lot to say most of the time. Talking at first was a challenge, but with a lot of poking and prodding, her shell was cracked. She certainly has a lot to say. She has a servants heart, loves the kids so well, and has a crazy desire to seek out the Lord more and more.
When I first saw Bekah, I noticed that she had crazy long hair. I’m talking like mid back long hair. At training camp, the Lord told her to shave her head. But being the stubborn person Bekah is, she said no. A lot of things with her usually take poking and prodding.
After the first two months of being in Swaziland, she heard the Lord telling to shave her head again. With clenched fists, she finally said yes.
During the time she said yes the Lord and cutting her hair, our team would find her spending time alone with God. Sometimes we would come up to her and find her crying. Even though this wasn’t something she really wanted to do, she said yes anyways. She was being obedient.
One night after feedback, she finally uttered the words’ “it’s time”. She told all of us that she was ready to cut her hair this night. We made sure that she really was ready, as Bekah is, stubborn, there was no changing her mind. It was time. About an hour later, we gathered in the bathroom, shut the door, and turned-on one of the mens shaving razors. We put on worship and Bekah sat down. Her hair was braided into 7 pieces, one for each member of the team, her friend Abigail, and out team leader. As we cut away her hair, there was not a dry eye in the room. We were all smiling and crying. The Holy Spirt was all over that bathroom. When her head was shaved, she looked like a new person. She acted like a new person. The amount of confidence and peace in that girl was crazy. There’s no doubt thats what God told her to do. I know that if God asked her to do it again, she would in a heart beat.
