hiya it’s jordan
It’s been quite the week, let me tell ya. The days are full and we’re finally settling into a routine here at the university of nations (that’s where I am, by the way… I don’t think I ever actually said that). One of the things on that schedule is house visits. Every morning we spend a few hours going from house to house with a translator. This usually just looks like small talk, getting to know each other, holding babies, ya know, just building that relationship. But!! Tuesday morning!! God rocked that.
At one of the houses, we were asked why we came to help, and I said “oh that’s cuz we follow God and He tells us to love and serve His people so that’s what we’re doing”. Pretty chill, didn’t think much of my comment. But it opened the door to a whole conversation about Jesus with this Buddhist man. We talked for hours and I left with telling him that I’ll be back tomorrow with a camai bible. (He thought he needed to know English to know Jesus, but news flash… Jesus is not American)
But wait, there’s more!! We walked to the next house but the Spirit had already beat me there, ha. There was a woman there named Mous with her grandson. She said she’d broken her arm and she couldn’t hold her baby because of it. So we all laid hands on her (ya know, how we Christians do) as I voiced a prayer, nothing fancy. And she started smiling. One of the girls asked her how she felt and she replied, “I can move my elbow now, it doesn’t hurt anymore.” Then she picked up her baby and went on her way. YALL. THAT. WAS. A. MIRACLE. they still happen just like they did in the Bible. I’ve always thought those stories just lived in bible times, and he wouldn’t ever need me to do it.
Well he actually doesn’t need me. I’m not bringing Jesus to these people, Jesus is already there. I’m just revealing it to them. It took quite a load off my shoulders when I realized that His will is going to happen with or without me. I couldn’t mess it up even if I wanted to. God could do it himself, but He invited me to help alongside Him so I could learn too. That’s really it.
Deuteronomy 18:19 says ‘and whoever will not listen to my words that he speaks in my name, I will require it of him.’
My little paraphrase: I will give Jordan the words to speak to the Cambodians today. If they do not listen, I will do it myself.
Ok that’s it, sorry that was really long. I could share so many more stories but I’ll just leave it at that. Cuz if you’re still with me, you’re a real trooper.
with love,
jordan
