I am a huge sports
fan, so when God speaks to me, it sometimes comes through sports analogies…
Transitions. Transitions are the most important part of sports. Transitions also seem to be the most
crucial times in my life.
For example…
In basketball…transition play is always a
major key
that is highlighted in practices. Once
your team makes a basket, you immediately
transition into
defense. Maybe
you set up a press and work on getting the
ball back right away.
If your team gets a
basket scored on them, then you transition
immediately. There is NO time to get your
head
down, because your opponent is
transitioning
at the same time. You hit back,
and try to drive down the court while your
opponent
celebrates their 2 to 3 points and
transition
themselves.
In soccer… 50/50
balls are always a very
important part of the game. 50/50 balls are
when each
team has an equal opportunity to
get the ball, for instance, goal kicks or
throw-ins. The team that dominates these transitions
usually wins the game.
Or how about swimming…You
can be the fastest swimmer out
there, but if you can not nail
your transitions of flipping and
pushing off
the wall to change
directions, then you will be in
trouble.
I am partial to
the Oklahoma Sooners, so I will use them as an example. They use what is called
a “shotgun offense. This offense is designed to transition so fast after a play, that they start the next play before
the defense is ready. Guess
what, IT WORKS. I have seen the defense out of position or still looking to
their sidelines when OU snaps the ball.
So transitions are vital.
They play a part in everything. Transitions
are necessary…Change is necessary…
My point is not
that transitions win ball games. My
point is that transitions are
necessary, and without them you just go the same direction your whole life,”YOU
COAST. If you see transition as an
opportunity, rather than unwarranted change then the possibilities are endless.
Your growth is endless…
Check out the
story of
Joseph, through lenses of
opportunity, and see how
transitions become necessary
for Joseph
to get to where God
is leading him. You see that
Joseph has to take his
transitions as opportunities to continue
his race. (Genesis 37-46)
I, too, am in the
middle of a transition, even though
it is voluntarily, it is necessary to my growth. I need to see this transition
as an opportunity to continue heading where God is leading me in life…
Voluntarily
or involuntarily, good or bad, are you using your transitions/changes as
opportunities or letting them get you down and hold you back?
