Gap J is in Ecuador!! This blog post is only 3 weeks late, so I apologize for that 😉 So much has happened in such a short amount of time, so I’m going to spare you all of the little details and save those for another time.
Here we goooo! My whole squad has been living in a house called Casa Blanca together in the midst of Quito. My squad is filled with 52ish beautiful people, so the past 3 weeks have been interesting to say the least. As a squad, we eat breakfast and dinner together, but during the day, we split up with our teams and go to our different ministry sites throughout Quito. My team is serving at an organization called Remar. Remar’s goal is to help those who are oppressed and marginalized, such as prostitutes, those recovering from drug addiction, and people who have been abused. Here’s the fun part: let me tell you aboutmy team :))) There are seven of us in total, and these are the people I am with day in and day out.
Ximmy: This girl loves to dance!! If music is on, she is popping. She does her best even when nobody is watching. Her attention to detail is exquisite, and she is always pointing us back to Christ and what He says.
Emily: Emily is such a sweet soul. She desires to know and be known. She will be there in a second if you need her. She is very sensitive and open to listening if you ever need to talk, which is so comforting to have.
Trey: Trey is a natural born leader. He carries an essence about him that draws people in. He reminds me a lot of a turtle. He seems hard on the outside, but is so soft and sweet on the inside. He’s going to cringe when he reads this 🙂
Nick: Nick is such a gem. He is quite possibly one of the easiest people to talk to, and has so much more to offer than I think he even realizes. When Nick is around, you are going to laugh and have a good time.
Isaac: Isaac is so very dependable. You can always count on him to get the job done. He has the best laugh ever!! He has one of those laughs that make other people laugh just by him laughing. He is also very sweet whether he knows it or not; it’s evident in how the kids at our ministry love him.
Maya: Maya is passionate in every sense of the word. She is bold, and stands for truth even when nobody is standing with her. She pushes me to be a better leader. Maya is a writer and our squad’s story leader, so she not so secretly judges my every blog post.
Like I said before, we have been living with our whole squad the past 3 weeks for all squad month. After this month, my team and I will head to Cuenca, Ecuador to work with a church where we will disciple others, be discipled, and really invest in relationships. We are so pumped!!
Although I am loving my time on the race so far, it isn’t all unicorns and rainbows. Living in community is hard, feelings have been upset, feedback has been given, and homesickness has set in. Despite all these things, though, this is such an incredible experience, and I feel so blessed to be doing what my heart has been singing for years now!
