To be completely honest with everyone it feels so weird to be back. I love being able to see everyone and I really have missed you but it still feels weird. Under normal circumstances I would love the attention. Making my grand exit from Romania in an ambulance and then a private jet only to come back to being showered with love, cards, gifts and attention. But I don’t feel that way at all. I am so appreciative of everything everyone is doing for me but I think you have the wrong person. The truth is I am not the hero of this story. I am really glad that I can be used right now as a vessel to encourage and inspire people but this celebrity treatment is not mine to claim. Everyone surviving the accident was nothing short of a miracle. You can disagree and pin it as fate, or karma, or just shear luck but there is no doubt in my mind that it truly was a miracle where God saved not only my life but also the lives of everyone in that car. I had absolutely nothing to do with this miracle. So in order to put credit where it is due I want to tell you the events of the accident as well as some of the events in the days fallowing it. If you are faint of heart I advise you to stop reading now. But if you want to hear the true events of an actual miracle story keep reading.
On Sunday September 15th two vans left our ministry site to go to church in a town about an hour and a half away. The first van held our two ministry contacts, one of their daughters and four members of my team. The second van held the 15-year-old daughter of our ministry contacts, three members of my team (including me), and three other members of my squad including my two-squad leaders. Those three other squad members were passing through and only staying with us for a short period of time. If they were not with us that morning the five foster children ranging from ages 3-9 would have been. I thank God everyday that they weren’t with us. We were going through some very bumpy and curvy roads a little bit to fast. An over correction on a curve resulted in the van fishtailing out of control. It then hydroplaned and went of a five-foot drop. The van flipped twice and then got stuck in some mud, which prevented it from flipping a third time. On the second flip one of my teammates was thrown out of the window. If the van flipped a third time it would have crushed her underneath. The mud stopped it about four feet away from where she landed. How’s that for some kind of divine intervention?!? Although her and I suffered some pretty severe injuries such as a broken pelvis, broken ribs, head injuries and even blood clots and fluid in the lungs we both escaped with our lives, as did everyone else in that van. These past 15 days God has been restoring and healing us in ways we didn’t even know we needed to be healed. He has been showing us so many crazy miracles and ways in which He wants to use our story. It is so hard to be away from my team and squad right now. It is easy to get angry and frustrated at God for allowing this to happen. But, when I look a little closer at the situation and when I choose to trust God despite the circumstances I am able to see little glimmers of Gods greater plan in using this accident.
Before leaving on The Race I would say a little prayer every time I got behind the steering wheel of my car. I would ask the Lord to surround my car and the cars around me with angels. While overseas I forgot to say that prayer. But it didn’t matter. Even though I didn’t say the words God still knew the desire of my heart. No matter where I am He is always going to have His angels protecting me. He did that day in Romania and He does everyday. If you have any questions about the accident or want to hear about any other stories about The Race please let me know. I will be happy to talk to you. I plan on rejoining my squad ASAP and need about $5,000 more by January in order to be fully funded. Please contact me if you are interested in donating.
