Bulgaria has been great. We are living in a small town in the mountains called Dupnitsa. This month looks a little different for my team due to it being “Manistry Month.” That means the boys from both co-Ed teams finally get the opportunity to be on an all-boys team. They get to do life together, challenge each other and poor into one another by living and doing ministry together.
This means that the women of the two coed teams were put together to make one team. We have decided to go by the team name Team No Bros….you can see each of these lovely ladies on the left side bar of this blog.
This month our team is busy! We are working in two orphanages. We spend 3 hours in the morning at a special needs orphanage and 3 hours in the afternoon working with youth. We work with youth aged 11-25. In the special needs orphanage we work with youth with all sorts of disabilities.
These range from being unable to do absolutely anything to just having small things that are barely noticeable. We do a small bible study, a craft and than play games. We play lots of soccer and do tons of dancing. It has been such a joy to work with these kids. In the afternoon we hangout with youth at the other orphanage doing the same things. Most of the teenagers have grown up in the orphanage, so that’s all they know.

The past two weeks we got to end by having a pool day. It was so much fun getting to just have fun and relax and show these kids love by building relationships with them.
Our main goal is to make sure these kids feel loved by us and ultimately loved by God.
Their living situations are not ideal and they may feel abandoned and isolated. Many of them run away, only to be found a few days later and brought back, while others just want to feel like they are cared for and loved.
This past week we noticed that the girls had some lice in their hair, so this week we are showing them love by washing and brushing through their hair. Much to our surprise they had way more than we thought and it is going to take a few weeks to completely get rid of them.
During this process we also discovered that these girls do not have brushes or shampoo and conditioner. It breaks my heart that these kids live in an orphanage because their parents couldn’t take care of them, yet the caretakers don’t make sure they are well kept either.

My team and I have decided that we want to leave the kids in both orphanages with little care packages. We want to let them know that we generally care for them. We want to show them how to check each other’s hair and leave them with something that can be used long after we leave.
We would love to leave them each with their own brush, deodorant, lice treatment, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, towel, hair ties, feminine products, toothbrush, tooth paste and maybe a sweet treat. We can’t fund this by ourselves, so we would love for you all to partner with us and help give these children a small gift.
We are hoping to raise $30/child, which would mean a total of $600 to get everything we need by August 16.
If you feel like helping out a child in need please feel free to donate any amount and we will email you pictures of the children and their packages (no pictures of the children can be posted due to privacy and their safety).
You can donate through my teammate’s PayPal at [email protected]
(this is the best way to keep all the money we receive in one account.)
Please keep these children and our team in your prayers as we work together!
much love,
jordan
