In what ways do you relate to God? In what ways do you agree with him? In what ways do you disagree with him? People in relationships don’t always agree. How do you overcome conflict with him? Do you forgive each other when you offend each other? Do you value the same things that he does? What interests do you share? What do you have in common? In what ways do you differ?

All these questions address the way we relate to someone.

It’s easy to forget that our relationship with God is just that: a relationship. It’s wayyy more than just reading a chapter of your Bible and thanking him for your food. It’s more like a dance full of give & take as be leads and we follow. It’s an exchange of thoughts and feelings through honest conversation. It’s an “I see you and know you and accept you” as he sees and knows and accepts us. It requires effort, but there’s a lot of joy that comes from it. It requires transparency and vulnerability, and we end up offending each other often. It requires a lot of “I’m sorry”s and a lot of forgiveness. It gets messy at times, but in the end, it’s always worth it.

Treat your relationship with God like the relationship that it is.
