Hello everyone! If you have made it this far into my blog, I can only imagine a few reasons why. Maybe you accidentally clicked on the wrong link. Maybe you are hardcore stalking, like we people do, because we live in a society that says I better “get to know him” before I get to know him. Maybe, just maybe you genuinely want to know more about me. Whatever the case may be, Welcome.
“This is my voice, there are many like it, but this one is mine.”
– Shane Koyczan
It’s ironic that I’m quoting someone else to tell you all about myself. But it’s true. This is my voice, and whether there are others that are similar, this one is mine.
My name is Jonny Mocek, I am a 20-year-old student at the University of Arkansas, designer, adventurer, lastly, and probably most important, I have been told that my spirit animal (if those existed) would be a squirrel. I can only attribute this to my abounding amounts of energy, or, possibly, my strange love of peanut butter. Either way, both qualities are true and abundant, much like the number of squirrels that run over the Arkansas Campus that I call home.
In terms of a home, Arkansas has held that title since before I can remember. My family and I hail from Little Rock, AR, where we have sort of settled after a long hiatus from Louisiana. I am the second born in a family of four boys, Josh being the first born, and Joseph and Hanz being the third and fourth. All of which, including my parents, are people you would consider yourself lucky to know.
Being a middle child you quickly find yourself stuck in a limbo between having authority and being powerless. This, along with my love for people, has taught me how to live in and foster community. I find this important, because, community is essential to the Christian faith. As such, I have a passion for relational ministry and desire to embolden others in love, and point their eyes towards Christ while doing so.
I am currently a sophomore studying Graphic Design in the University of Arkansas’ honors program. A program that never fails to excite me and teach me in ways I could have never imagined. However, this is a rather new occurrence, as I spent my last three semesters studying Architecture and Urban Design.
In addition to being a designer, I have a passion for adventure. I yearn to explore. Though, in my heart I hope that my travels will not just be for myself, but be used for the sake of others and the sake of the gospel. Further, I believe that this “adventuring” is a necessary ingredient in personal growth, because it is the closest thing we can get to walking in another person’s shoes i.e. “seeing how the other half lives.”
Through my opportunity to participate in the World Race I hope not to vacation and explore the world for nine months. Rather I hope to combine my love for adventure, my skills as a designer, and my passion for relational ministry, to serve God within the communities I will be a part of. I desire to share, through my actions, the love of Christ with those whom we encounter, and I hope to strengthen and mature in my own relationship with Christ as well.
As I leave I pray that the words of 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 will remain a constant example of me and my team’s ministry. So, that I will not win people to myself, but will point others towards Christ, because he is so much more than I can ever hope to be.
“My speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”
1 Corinthians 2:4-5
If you want to follow in my adventure, “get to know me” better, or hopefully learn more about the gospel, I encourage you to follow my blog and take part in my journey. If you feel led to support me or Adventures in Missions – whether that is through funds, encouragement, or most importantly prayer – I am thankful for it and will welcome it, like a college student welcomes free food, readily.
If you do feel led to donate you can do so through the “Donate” button at the top right of this page! If you want to contact me, ask me about donations, talk more about my heart behind the Race, or just need a friend, you can contact me at [email protected]
Thank you for taking the time to read this, if you don’t know me personally, I hope this shed a little light on who I am, and what I am about. All the best, and happy stalking. /Jonny Mocek
