November 30th is always a special day to me. The day started off with praying for the ministry that was happening later that day in the near by city called Craiova. After prayer some of the squad left for the city and the rest of us stayed behind to continue our ministry here in Draganesti. Two of my teammates had left to go to the city but the rest of the five of us went to a local cafe for my 23rd birthday. It was my first birthday away from home/college and it was a whole lot easier than I expected and that’s all thanks to my squad and the effort they put into making sure it was a good day.
After lunch and team time we went out to ministry, and this day was my third day of teaching English. Teaching English somehow became one of my favorite ministry activities. The family we were teaching too were missionary’s who live in a nearby town who want to learn English so they can communicate with future squads and help translate for them. My teammate Melanie and I taught the family the basic English words for different rooms in a house, clothing, weather, animals, foods and drinks. After teaching I went home had dinner and a couple of birthday cookies my squad mate had made for my birthday the prior night. Then, to end the day right a group of us played a card game and then I face timed home to talk to my parents.
It’s weird to me writing about this day because reading back over it I think, “Why was that such a good day?” Their is no other explanation besides the fact that I got to spend the whole day in community with friends who I have come to care about and love being around. This birthday was the same as the rest but different. Different in that it wasn’t with family, but it was the same as in it was with friends who are becoming more and more like family every day.
Thank you to Mitch and Lindsdey Wirth for sponsoring this day and all the other support you have given me.
