Ministry here has been so awesome. Scripture Union is well established and it’s been fun to work with them. I personally have had the opportunity to to lead a bible study , and preach at two after school clubs all in the past 24 hours with one more school coming up here in 40 minutes. I’ll post more information about that in my next blog.
January 2nd
I somehow missed this the my last post but hey better late than never I guess. On January 2nd we were still doing ministry in Malawi. The primary (elementary) school we were helping out at was reopening from Christmas break the next week, so our team went in to help get the school ready for the kids to return. Personally I helped with planting some trees and fertilizing the fields by hand. The fertilizing took about 3 hours and we didn’t even finish. They home grow a lot of the food they make for the kids there at the school so helping out with keeping the crops healthy and growing was a cool way to contribute. After the school we went back to Butterfly Space (our hostel) and we had Super Feedback. Usually we have feedback everyday where we encourage each other to be the best we can be by pointing out things we did well in ministry or by giving constructive feedback on how an individual can better themselves to better their ministry. Super feedback though is when we all have to come into the session with 1 piece of constructive feedback and 1 compliment for each person on the team. Though this sounds intimidating it really helps with making everyone aware of how they are doing a good job but can always improve. Once this was all over we went out for a late meal together in town. Thank you Wirth Family for sponsoring this day!
January 12th
A lot of this month has been working with kids clubs . The schedule is play games, teach the kids about the Bible, life lessons, and English throughout the early week and then on Friday to get them ready for a Variety show we will have on Saturdays where they can invite their parents to come to. As January 12th was a Friday , we split ourselves up to help with different talent categories. With my talents I naturally helped with the singers (It was actually because everyone else wanted to help with something else and I didn’t care what group I went with. I got all the singers into the room and they practiced for the next day (where actually only 1 person decided to actually perform, dancing was a lot more popular). Anyway, after youth club we went back to the house where my teammate Jessica led team time. She led an activity where we all wrote encouragement notes to each other. I know this isn’t a normal thing back home but it is really something special to acknowledge the gifts God has given those around you and then also to hear about what others see in you is also very encouraging. Thank you Kurtz Family for sponsoring this day and congratulations to my cousin Joe Kurtz who after 19 months of hard dedicated work is now a winged aviator for the US Air Force!
January 15th
A day I will not soon, or probably ever, forget. The day started off with going to my first African church service. The preacher was great and the church body made us all feel really comfortable. Then the day got better after getting wifi and calling home Lindsey, Mack, Zach and I met up with 6 guys who work at the organization we are working with to introduce one another to each others sports. First we went to the batting cages, not to swing a baseball batt but a cricket batt. We learned how to pitch as well, which in cricket is called bowling. After trying it out for a while we went to a nearby park and played some Ultimate. Man that felt to good. I had not played ultimate since I was back in the US. I’ve thrown around but not actually play. We taught them all how to play and they loved it. We played for a couple hours before everyone got too tired. We are hoping to play again this Sunday. Footage of this day will be coming soon hopefully. Once we were done we went home and played cards, watched a movie, and then some football. I may be on another continent but I was going to find a way to watch the Vikings play (even if it didn’t start here until after 11pm), and if you follow football at all, you know how that game turned out and wow was that a great way to cap off a great day. Thank you Aunt Deb for sponsoring this day!
As always, thank you all for your support and prayer.
