We’re in Nepal! And out in a remote village. Like, WAY remote. Sorry it’s taken me so long to update you all, but the last week and a half have been crazy.
We left Atlanta on the morning of July 3rd. Myself and Lindsay W. are the Logistics Coordinators for our squad, which means that we’re responsible for, among other things, getting all 45 of us moved from place to place. So we got everyone to the Atlanta airport, and discovered that there was a misinterpretation and according to the airline, half of our squad had already missed their flight.
We only had a 3 hour layover in Chicago before our 14 hour flight to India left, so we were in Atlanta scrambling to get everyone on the soonest flight from Atlanta to Chicago, so no one would miss the India flight. It was crazy….great first day as LCs. But praise the Lord, everyone made it just in time, and we all got on the plane to India. (14 hour plane ride, fun stuff). We arrived in India at 2pm, but our flight to Nepal didn’t leave until 7am the next morning, so we had the pleasure of spending the night in the Indian airport.
We made it to Nepal with no worries, and met our contacts. We have 7 teams, and we all were headed different places in Nepal. One pastor was coordinating my group and 2 others, and our 3 groups actually got to spend the first couple nights in Kathmandu staying in the house of the only member of Parliament who is a believer! It was a pretty cool experience.
But then on Sunday we got thrown into the real world. Our team and team PAC took a 6 hour jeep ride out to a super remote village. We are here working with a pastor and his family who started New Light Nepal. Out here child marriages are very common for girls. One of the things the ministry here does is work to educate parents on the value of their children. I can’t write too much about what they do, but if you’re interested in hearing more details, feel free to email me. They also run a small Christian school here, and a church.
We are helping with several things here, including teaching some of the classes at the school. I get to teach 2nd graders English and computer. They have church service on Saturdays here, and originally John was going to preach, but he was sick that morning, so I spoke. It was my first time giving a message with a translator, and it was a really cool experience. I shared some of my story and spoke out of Romans 12.
It’s smoking hot here. Like, really hot. We’ve really learned how to suck it up and support each other as a team J There’s usually power from 9pm to 5am, so sometimes we’re fortunate enough to have a fan to sleep under, but it never gets very cool even in the evenings.
Long story short, it’s only been a week but it’s so cool to see the heart these brothers and sisters have for Jesus, and how much they’re giving up to serve Him. God is moving in awesome ways here, our team and community is growing in the Lord, and I can feel my heart changing fast already. There’s so much more I could share, but I’ll save it for another time.
Thank you so much for following me and my story, and for your support. Please comment with any thoughts or questions!
I’ll try to post a pile of pictures later, when I actually have real internet.
