On Thursday, the 15th, Kelsie and I met with Joy, a leader with Joyous Christian Center. She was very kind and sweet, and shared with us part of her church’s vision for outreach in the future. We were encouraged by her, and had the chance to encourage her some as well. She works as a tourist coordinator, and she set our team up with a free Safari at 6am the next morning here in Chobe National Park!
So needless to say, Friday the 16th we were ready to go bright and early, and had a great time checking out the hippos, giraffes, crocodiles, baboons, elephants, and many other animals. After we got back, Kelsie had a second meeting with Joy, and Mandy and Danica met with another contact that we found through John’s initial meeting. That afternoon we had some quality team time, debriefing the first half of the month. Then the other 4 went on a boat safari, while I got caught up on some logistics stuff.
We’re supposed to take 1 “off” day per week, but we’ve had quite a bit of downtime, plus the opportunity hadn’t really arisen, so we hadn’t really so far this month. But on Saturday the 17th we took the day to make the venture out to Victoria Falls. It was BEAUTIFUL. We crossed into Zimbabwe, and the other 4 did a huge canyon swing off of the bridge that borders Zimbabwe and Zambia. Then we crossed over into Zambia and checked out Victoria Falls from that side. It was a day full of border crossings, super aggressive street peddlers, fun negotiating, and lots of picture taking. We got 8 stamps in our passport in 1 day!
Friday night we met up with a local pastor, John, for dinner. It was cool to hear his perspective of the Kingdom work happening here. He also asked us several questions about our experiences so far, and it was fun to think back on them as we described them to him.
Saturday morning, the 18th, it will be time to hit the road bright and early as we begin our treck out to the middle of nowhere! Check out the next blog to see how that goes.
P.S. I know I’ve been giving “just the facts” lately….I promise I’ll post soon about some of the things the Lord has been laying on my heart lately, and what I’ve been learning….it really has been a full month spiritually as well….a really great one.
