Well, that was Nepal. First thing in the morning we leave for India. This blog will cover two things – summarizing the month, and explaining how awesome our hosts were.
We stayed in the village of Haripur, in the district of Sirlahi. Way out in the boonies, 5 miles from the Indian border. Where we stayed the pastor and his wife had a house, a small church, and a small Christian school. You can find a full 10 minute comical tour here: http://youtu.be/y4BayePV6JY
Uncle and Auntie (the pastor and his wife) have 2 sons, Little brother and Big brother, who live with them and help with the school. Little brother is the principal. The brothers were absolutely phenomenal. You could totally see God’s love in everything they did, they served us in SO many ways, they were fun, and absolutely hilarious. They always kept us guessing – you could never tell if they were joking or being serious….they really made the month a blast. Uncle was equally awesome – he was an amazing man of God, and even though he didn’t talk much, whenever he did we were always careful to listen, because he had such great, wise things to say.
Overall, Nepal was a great month. If you’ve read the posts before this, you already know some of the struggles and some of the praises from the month. Some of the big takeaways from this month are
-In some ways my life as a believer in the USA is very different from life as a believer here in Nepal. But in many ways it is very similar. Our last Saturday in the village I preached at church out of Luke 10, and talked about how just like Jesus sent out the 72 (or apparently 70 if you’re reading a Nepali bible), He is sending out all of us, Nepali and American alike.
-It’s easy to waste downtime. It took me half the month to realize how much free time I was letting slip away in the afternoons and evenings, even with full days of ministry. I’ve started reading “Knowing God” (finally! It only took you recommending it about 47 times Rick 🙂 )and been trying to be more intentional about just sitting with the Lord for a little bit each day, after my daily devotions. Still not being the most efficient with my time, but I’m working on it.
-Living in community 24/7 is an interesting experience. There’s lots of great things about it, and some challenging things about it. But the Lord can really use it to do some awesome things. He already has, and I’m excited to see how he does in the upcoming months.
On to India!
