Peru is great!

I am sitting here on the roof of our three story house in the dusty city of Villa Elsalvador and I love it. Finally I am over my sickness and can see what God is doing in this place.
The church that we are with, Iglesia Shalom, is truly on fire for Christ and seeking after the true definition of what the church is supposed to be. We’re dancing, we’re engaging in spiritual warfare, we’re evangelizing, we’re preaching, we’re… being stretched to our limits.

Today was a 13 hour day from when we left home until we returned… it is not always go, go, go but we don’t have enough time to go back to the house and have a large chunk of off time. It is taking a bit to get used to, but it is also amazing to see how God is working through us, even in our weakness. Tonight we were told that we would go to different cell groups in the church and possibly share testimonies and stuff like that. What ended up happening was us going for dinner to some random person’s house and then going out into a rough neighbourhood and inviting youth to a concert in a couple of weeks and putting on dramas and telling testimonies to them and talking with them. What I learned, and have learned time and again here, is that we have to be flexible. Things will always change and communication will be horrible, but just have a good attitude and always be ready for anything and you’ll be fine. And it was cool, these kids asked us
questions, I played games with some of the younger ones and we just let them know that we love Jesus. I have come to grips with the fact that if we speak truth, then that is all that matters. Even if it may seem ineffective sometimes, we are speaking truth and bringing glory to God. And they listened, they enjoyed the dramas and chatted with us about life in their communities.

It is so nice to see the world through more positive eyes, you know when you feel like crap everything you see looks crappier. That’s how I felt for the past week and a bit, my outlook was really negative. But that sickness has been lifted and now it is amazing to see God shining through, and He is using me, a broken and messy guy, to further His kingdom. If that isn’t phenomenal, I don’t know what is!

So here I sit, wrapped in a light blanket around midnight on the roof. Its the perfect temperature and I am getting ready for another night under the stars (and we just found out that we have about 3 rat-friends up here as well)

God is good… I still don’t understand how life for Christ can be so rewarding and why He chose me, but He did!
