Jaco’s Heart
Through the frustrations that were Mozambique there were so many times and people that made our stay there worth while. Some of these people were Jaco and Maria Rudoph and their two children Rudo and Maggie. This South African family has given their lives to ministering to the people of Vilankulos on the coast of Mozambique.
What really took me by surprise was that these people, although raised in South Africa with all the amenities that you and I have, live very simply. In a straw hut, that is basically one room, this family has an awesome ministry and such huge hearts.
Jaco has a projector and large screen (see picture) where he shows the Jesus movie in their language,
then he tells his testimony, which comes as a big surprise from seeing this gentle man. This certain evening that we as a group came along to pray around the area and bless the people who showed up, Jaco asked if there was anyone in the crowd who needed healing. A young man came up who was deaf in one ear, Jaco prayed for him. Nothing huge happened but a few days later that man came to Jaco’s house to say that his hearing was restored in that ear!!!
Jaco cares for many orphans; different groups in different areas. There was one evening that was exceptionally cold. Right then and there Jaco got all the money he could scrape together and bought blankets for the kids. His heart is to start something like mercy homes, not an orphanage. The idea sprouts from orphan children not growing up in normal home environments and not knowing how to have their own family, this is where mercy homes come in. 6-10 children live in a home with one “Mother” and hopefully a “Father,” all the children go to school and church and live normal lives with chores around the house. This helps children learn basic things that other children living in families experience without even thinking about it, but would be lost in an orphanage.
So we just wanted to thank the supporters who gave money to the teams that won the race, we decided to give our money from winning the race in South Africa, to Jaco’s Ministry.
